The time has come to try something different. What you've tried before to feel better hasn't worked. You're ready to deal with your emotions more deeply.
You can DO something new.
You can EXPRESS yourself.
You can be freely YOU.
In our work together...
We will use a combination of movement and traditional talk therapies to bring the mind and body together. Research on Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) has proven to "have positive effects on various health-related outcomes." The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) defines dance/movement therapy as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual.
Dance/movement therapy sessions are different because they explore how your body's sensations connect and affect your thoughts and feelings. Depending on your needs, I may guide you through set movements or improvised movements. Then we can explore what information comes up like images, thoughts, feelings, memories, etc. That may then be further processed through words, writing, drawing, or more movement.
Dance/movement Therapy can benefit anyone. I am skilled at working within the range and abilities of each person to ensure they are safe both emotionally and physically. Working within your comfort level is a priority until you're ready to expand.
To experience DMT first-hand, watch the video "A Mind-Body Connection Experiment." Email me at Rayni@E-MOTIVEcounseling.com to share your experience.
"I want to try, but..."
I will meet you where you want to start. In the beginning, you can have the camera off or turned away (one of the many perks of online therapy). Then we can gradually introduce me witnessing your movement.
If you can move your eyes, you can dance. Every second there is movement happening in your body. Any BODY can benefit from dance/movement therapy.
When will you have the TIME? Resources such as money are renewable. Time is not. There is no time like NOW to start getting on the path towards being fully you.
You are worth the try! Give it at least 4-6 sessions to see gradual results. Trying everything else has not helped, so why not try one more?
I know you may not believe it yet so I will hold that hope for you. Try it for 4-6 sessions to find out that you can get better. Can you afford to miss any more chances for a better perspective on life?
What will it cost you if you don't make a change? Time? Relationships? Health? Invest in yourself today!
We chat for a while at the beginning of our meeting, then I steer the conversation to the purpose of our meeting: you. Perhaps we will do some guided mindfulness with movement. As an example, I may ask you to mentally ground yourself by picturing a tree and focusing on pushing down your sitz bones (i.e. the bottom of your pelvis that you sit on).
Later on in the session, I might ask you about your body feelings regarding the topic we're discussing. As a way to explore that, I may prompt you to move (if you feel comfortable doing so) then we talk about what occurred. For example, I may have noticed the way your shoulders drop forward with heaviness then shift abruptly upright with your next breath. We discuss how this happens when you get anxious and quickly try to act "fine" even though you're struggling on the inside. I help you with steps to follow in order to compassionately calm your body and mind down.
You may benefit from this observational feedback, which offers a different perspective than your own. You may gain a deeper understanding of your experience as a result and learn a different way to handle it next time.
Dance/Movement Therapy will add a deeper level of experiencing of your thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns.
Learn what it means and what to do with that information of thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns.
Take that information and create steps towards healing, growth, and change.
